Motivus “a moving cause” – Determining Your WHY

Motivation is simply the desire to do things. It is a word that derives from the Latin term motivus “a moving cause”. It is the feeling that you get that feels good. For some it is the thing that gets them up every morning. For others it is a simple push or that little extra to be able to achieve their goals. Whatever the reasoning or logic behind what you are doing, that is your motivation for continuing to do it. Whether it is getting up early every day to workout before work or staying up late to finish your homework. Everyone’s cause to move in the direction they are moving is different. Some people do things to gain future rewards and others to avoid future pain. Whatever the case may be, find a reason that will move you in the direction of your dreams and ambitions.

Answering one simple question might have the possibility to determine whether or not you will achieve your goals, dreams, and ambitions. The answer to your question holds the key to your success, and if for some reason you do not like that answer, do not worry for you can change the answer. The question reads…

“ Why do you get up every morning?”

Your reason for getting up Monday morning for a run at 8am might be different than getting up on Thursday morning on street sweeping day at 8am. The outcome was the same, wake up at 8am, yet the reasons where different. If there isn’t a moving cause for you to get up such as, improved health with a run or avoiding the pain of a street sweeping ticket, there is no motivation for you to get up.

So ask yourself, why do you get up every morning? Is it to move forward in the direction of your dreams. To have and to be the person you were meant to be. Have passion and fulfill your purpose with health, peace, and love, or do you get up to avoid the pain of regret? The pain of not achieving and not doing what you were meant to be and do what you are capable of. The ability for someone to do something more or different from what they are currently doing is slim to none if they do not have a compelling reason to do so. Go forward in the direction of your dreams.

Motivation gets you started, dedication keeps you going.
